<description><![CDATA[When: Wed Jun 19, 2013 10am to 2pmÂ  BST&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Where: Barking and Dagenham, Eastbrook End Country Park and The Chase Local Nature Reserve &lt;br /&gt;Event Status: confirmed &lt;br /&gt;Event Description: Volunteers are needed to help with conservation and land management work on Eastbrook End Country Park. tasks include coppicing, river work and fence repairs. Volunteers will gain practical conservation skills on a variety of habitats as well as getting to know this amazing green space. This is an excellent chance to learn new skills in a friendly environment and to make a significant contribution to green spaces in the borough. <description><![CDATA[When: Wed Jun 19, 2013 11am to 2pmÂ  BST&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Where: Winsford Gardens, Penge, SE20 7RN &lt;br /&gt;Event Status: confirmed &lt;br /&gt;Event Description: BTCVâ€™s award winning Green Gym has launched in Penge, South London. Sessions are tailored to maximise the health benefits and include a warm-up to reduce the risk of muscle strain, and a gentle cool-down at the end of the session. Discover and help transform a hidden green space through conservation, gardening and food growing activities. BTCV Green Gym sessions are free and open to all, regardless of experience or level of fitness. Be involved for as long as you like and work at your own pace. There will be a variety of activities suitable for all abilities so come along, improve your health and stamina, learn new skills, and meet volunteers over a hot drink brewed outdoors! Leadership is provided by a BTCV Project Officer. There is wheelchair access at Winsford Gardens. BTCV Green Gyms are inclusive to those of all abilities and we work closely with community groups and heath partners including learning disability support services, mental health charities, GP surgeries and other health services. It offers an opportunity for all the local community, male or female, young or old, to come together on a regular basis to enjoy this beautiful park and get physically active into the bargain. The idea is to encourage people to jog or run together irrespective of their ability. Volunteers are needed for the start of the run: â€¢ Race Director: In overall charge of the event on the day (in particular event safety), co-ordination of the volunteers, set up of the course and overall management of the run. â€¢ Timer: Responsible for operating the timer. â€¢ Photographer. â€¢ Number Token Distributor: Responsible for handing position tokens to all runners as they cross the line. â€¢ Number Token Assistant: Assists the Number Token Distributor by preparing the stacks of number disks. â€¢ Registration: Responsible for scanning finish tokens and athlete barcodes into our scanning device. â€¢ Administration: Uploads the information from the race later in the day onto the laptop provided. Responds to queries and e-mails. <description><![CDATA[When: Tue Jun 25, 2013 10am to 4pmÂ  BST&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Where: Tower Hamlets Cemetry, c/o The Soanes Centre, Southern Grove, E3 4PX &lt;br /&gt;Event Status: confirmed &lt;br /&gt;Event Description: Join volunteers helping to improve the park for wildlife and people. Tower Hamlets is a Victorian cemetery built in 1841. The site was well utilised but burials ceased in 1960s. The park is now a 27 acre Nature Reserve providing good habitats for wildlife including scrubland, meadow and woodland. There are many species of butterly and bumblebee benefitting from the changes as well as a stunning display of bulbs and wildflowers in the spring and summer. Activities vary depending on the season, but may include weeding, planting, and footpath upgrading. Gloves and tools are provided along with refreshments, but please wear long-sleeved clothes to get mucky in, sturdy footwear and don&amp;#39;t forget to bring a packed lunch if you are staying for the day.
