Update on the Monroe Ave construction

-- Posted on Jun 26, 2009 --
Till completion, city staff plans on providing updates approximately each Friday.

June 26th: Dominion Power has completed the installation of cable in the previously installed conduit. Remaining work includes energizing of the previously installed cable. The removal of the existing wires and poles is expected to be completed by early July.

* Shirley Contracting continues grading on and around Monroe Ave. The work this past week included removal of unsuitable unstable material and backfilling suitable material.

* The demolition of the retaining wall at the Goldcrust Bakery was previously completed. The contractor is backfilling this area and will re-establish the walks and access to the building by next week. The removal of the retaining wall on the north side of Monroe will still begin following removal of the utility poles by Dominion Power. NOTE: The retail outlet of the Goldcrust Bakery is open - accessible from Leslie Ave.

* The medians along Route 1 will be completed and grass will be planted by the end of June.

* Shirley has begun completing punchlist items on the project. Shirley will begin pouring concrete curb, gutter and sidewalk on the south side of Monroe.

* The ability to perform all of this work is weather dependent. The continued rain has pushed the schedule back by a week or more. Construction of Monroe Ave is still anticipated to be completed by the end of August. The recent rains have caused a delay beyond the earlier projections of completion in July. PYD and the City are working out issues relating to performance bonds, completion of punchlist items and other legal issues that may impact the opening of Monroe to traffic. An opening date will be provided once these issues have been addressed.

*For previous updates:
-- Delivered by Feed43 service
