Harkening back to the long-lost Santa Cruz performing arts venue, What Is Art?, a weekly open mic at Santa Cruz newest community space and anarchist infoshop. An opportunity to connect with friends and showcase the incredible creative talent in our community. Music, poetry, and performance. From the mundane to the jaw-droppingly inspirational. Fri Feb 12 8pm - Post-Racial Short Film Festival

Now that we're all post-racial and shit, let's bust out the bubbly and celebrate!!! It's been a year since racism ended in America and it's time to take stock of our history and take a deeper look at our shiny new post-racial nation. This will be an evening of short films and discussion hosted by the anti-racist group Being John Brown Themes will include everything from how to call out your local racist to hip hop, hair, the white power movement, baby dolls, what solidarity can look like, blaxploitation, and of course, the resulting racial tension headaches! BEING JOHN BROWN is a group of activists committed to challenging and actively confronting white supremacy, including lampooning the absurd notion of an extant “Post-Racial” America with actual fact. SANTA CRUZ GUERILLA DRIVE-IN is an outdoor movie theater under the stars that springs up in the fields and industrial wastelands. But tonight it's gonna be indoors. Beyond showing great movies and bringing a broad community together, part of our mission is helping reclaim public space and transforming our urban environment.

Sun Feb 14 3pm - Zine Making!

Come create (or destroy) a new (or current) society with essays, poems, pictures, and stories. Let's take our writings, dreams, visions, pictures, and desires, cut and paste them on pieces of paper to be distributed to friends and strangers, and change the world with our revolutionary ideas. Let's get together and discuss politics, "economics," relationships, revolution, and other pressing issues while making zines. Let's meet each Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at SubRosa Community Event Center, 703 Pacific Avenue. If you can, bring paper, markers and pens, tape, glue, scissors, pictures, magazines, comic books, etc. Please also bring radical ideas and a cooperative spirit to make the best zines ever! Come get familiar and involved with SubRosa's new Zine Exchange. It's awesome! Pass this on to your friends, constituents, and any interested parties.

Letters are immensely important to prisoners, to combat isolation and stay engaged with the world and loved ones. Write a letter and become a penpal with someone whose freedom has been stolen by the state. Find out what to write and what not to. Political prisoners' addresses provided.
